This is my Bible. Whenever I am feeling sad or lost or lonely I open it up to a page, any page, and read the first paragraph my eyes fall upon. Within I find some solace or beauty or truth that I had forgotton. Today I read this;
Effortlessly proud, graceful as giraffes (even the tallest among them, a kind-eyed Blunderbore), the bowmen moved across the clearing. Last, hand in hand, came a man and a woman. Their faces were as beautiful as if they had never known fear. The woman’s heavy hair shone with a secret, like a cloud that hides the moon.
My Bible was written by a Man, but that gives me a chance to hope that someday, I too, could create something that speaks to the heart within.

Certainly, you are already well on your way to attaining your such inspiring goal, for you see, your blog is what I turn to when feeling down; there is not a breath of sadness of loneliness here, among these most beautiful pictures and cheerful, encouraging writings.
Thank you, this means so much to me. I think sadness is beautiful too sometimes, as long as its transient and fleeting.
pssst. The other Bible was written by a mere mortal too. Several of them, in fact! Divine inspiration perhaps, but not necessarily divine intervention. Keep writing!
Perhaps there is something a little divine in all pure inspiration?
I feel exactly like you, ForgottenGenius!
When I visit this blog (and the Princess Portal too) I smile and feel happy. :D
The Last Unicorn is a wonderful book…
Thank you Elsa, your blog has such pretty images, I wish I could read Swedish.
Thank you! My english isn’t so good (I’m only 13…) so I write in swedish. By the way, I think you were my first visitor ;)
The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite books! Your edition is much prettier than mine… I don’t think mine has pictures.
This edition is actually in an anthology ‘The Fantasy Worlds of Peter S. Beagle’ its a first edition and has the most lovely illustrations.
I have an old paperback copy that I lend out too.. I’m not sure who I gave it to last.
The Last Unicorns is an amazing book and movie ♥ I love it!
I love them both, but I think the book is my favourite.
The last unicorn is a beautiful read and the film is so endearing
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Five hearts for EXCELLENT!!!
Thank you. I’ve read it so many times I’ve lost count.
what a lovely copy! i love the last unicorn. <3
I’m glad you like it too, I really want to find a 1st edition some day.
While I appreciate the beauty in the words, and the imagery is very gorgeous & appealing, the line “… as beautiful as if they had never known fear” bothers me. I don’t think there is anything beautiful about never knowing fear – on the contrary, I find it a character flaw, because it means they have never challenged themselves or done anything unfamiliar, and therefore never had a chance to grow & learn & become better people from it.
I think it makes more sense if you know the story, they’re actually not characters, they’re like ghosts… visions.. appearing to their very real and very afraid counterparts.
To me, “as beautiful as if they had never known fear” is the type of beauty held by a newborn child, or a fuzzy kitten. There is something so precious and innocent about them. Later, when they learn that life is fleeting and danger exists, they gain a different type of beauty, born of their growing knowlege, strength, and bravery.
This is one of my favorite books. And I was blessed enough to be able to meet Peter Beagle in person at a convention several years ago. I thanked him for writing such a beautiful story and told him how much it meant to me. He truly seems like such a kind and magical man.
I am SO jealous of you!
I never see this book, but I love books. My favorite is Twilight.
I haven’t read that yet, but I think its good that more people are reading these days.
Oh, yes, the Last Unicorn is lovely… I had another unicorn book favorite when I was small… called “One Unicorn”. It had the most fabulously colorful pictures… Too bad it’s near impossible to find now… ._.
I have not hear of it, was it a novel or a picture book?
My other favourite Unicorn books are The Little White Horse and Into the Land of the Unicorns.
I’d never heard of this book, it sounds beautiful, and I too turn to the Princess Portal (and now also this new blog) whenever I need some inspiration or something to pick me up. :)
If you only ever read one book I suggest on my blog, read this one <3
Oh, Princess. :) I loved The Last Unicorn so much. I do agree though, your edition is so much prettier than the one I own. Of course the content is no less wonderful.
You and I have a similar dream. I want to be a writer who inspires people. You seem to be much closer to your dream than I am, you certainly inspire me and many others already. If ever I publish anything of note, I would certainly want your opinion on it. :3
I would love to read your published work! I feel that I’m very far away from this goal though, thank you for the encouragement.
I love this book though I don’t consider it my bible (mine is the Bible and Jane Austen), but I agree. I do enjoy turning towards literature for creative inspiration and motivation in life.
I’m glad you have your Bibles too. I find written words, especially old stories I know by heart, very comforting.
Beautiful <3
Did you ever read, “Into the Land of the Unicorns”? It’s a beautiful children’s book I read as a girl and I remember it absolutely capturing my heart.
It’s very short, since it’s a children’s book. You should pick it up if you have the chance.
Oh that is a lovely illustration! I enjoy your new blog very much! ^^ Beautiful photos and inspirational writings. Keep it up! ^^~
I’m glad you mention books in your blog with such love. They’re the most magical things in my life most of the time. I can’t say I have a favorite unicorn book–I used to really like a book about a world called Luster–but now my favorites are mostly classics, a world of books The Little Princess introduced me to <3
What are your favorite kids’ books, other than the ones you’ve mentioned? Have you ever read All of a Kind Family? It’s not your typical good book but I loved it more than anything as a kid
All of a Kind Family was also my favorite as a child. I still have my original copy from the 1960′s. It taught be about a way of life that was so different than my own, but filled with love and family and tradition. When I was older, I loved Little Women for the same reasons.
