And he came to me, star browed and milk breathed, all gentleness and yet as tall as I was with those great, heavy eyes. He searched my pockets for sugar cubes and I laughed, which startled him. Neither of us was very brave, but we each wanted something desperately from the other. I held out my hand, cold fingers, silver rings and hope, he pawed the ground in answer. I knew at that moment he would soon forget me, when I no longer came with the dawn and the dew, when I slipped from his world with the last of the summer.

Oh, what beautiful horses! Who would ever want to leave such amazing creatures?

    • Skylark said:

I did not want to leave them, or the curious cows or the rabbits that ate the clover in the fields or even the less than friendly sheep. I miss them dearly.

  6. Oh how beautiful! I really feel the magic in your words. Those are such darling horses! Did you meet them in England or in your own Kingdom of Australia? <3

    • Skylark said:

They are English horses, we don’t really have heavy horses like these in Australia and the fields are never so green.

  9. I am completely captivated by all your England posts. Lovely idea of stories, it’s all so grand. x

Thank you dear one, I have so many stories, and it hurts a little because each is a goodbye too. xx

Oh my, my heart actually almost stopped when I saw this. The pictures, the words, are just, well…I wish I could say a different word other than beautiful but I can’t. It’s such an over used word that i fear it wouldn’t do this justice. I absolutely adore horses, such gentle, shy and magnificent creatures. I even think this is the best picture of a horse I have seen in a long, long time, perhaps ever. I don’t know whether you simply had a fabulous camera, or you just captured a certain moment that if you blinked you’d miss it. Which ever, it is absolutely stunning and made my evening, thank you so much xxx

Oh, this is the nicest comment, thank you. I’m not really very good at taking pictures, I just takes lots and lots and then spend hours trying to pick the right ones. I’m glad you like these. xxx

Oh he’s lovely <3 I haven't had a chance to pet a horse in years! We need to visit a petting zoo/farm one day, Miss Skye :P

Claire, I miss riding so much, I did it for years but part of me is scared I’ve forgotten. I need to find somewhere down south that still has horses!

So darling! What an adorable name for a horse. How great of an adventure you had with him.

I wish I knew his real name, I’m sure it would be lovely. xxx

I quite like the one you gave him. I’m sure he would, too.
Also, thank you so much for the words you left me. I rather agree with you: fireworks are very scary. I have been burned by them, you see, but they are too mesmerising to stay away from.

  13. Gorgeous creatures, aren’t they? I ride either of two thoroughbred horses, one a frisky mare named Jubilee, the other is the handsome and poised Hamilton. I spoil them with apples. I always prefer to see them this way, roaming free, instead of in box stalls, or worse, narrow stalls. I love horses so much. ♡

    • Skylark said:

Oh, you are so lucky. I used to ride, but all the stables in my city are gone now. I rode a dapple grey pony named Jinx (I was still too small for thoroughbreds.) I saw so many heavy horses in England though, they are gorgeous. I think this boy might be a Clydesdale?

Funny how the most magical moments are those which fade faster.

    • Skylark said:

That’s part of magic though, isn’t it, dissapearing?

I once rode horses. The touch of their fur and the feeling on them are still clearly in my mind. That’s a wonderful experience to me.

Oh, me as well, I miss the way they breathe and the scent of hay and leather.
