It’s fire outside, and I’m bottled up in a glass jar, all windows. A little greenhouse. So I close the curtains and lie down on the cool, calm floor. Books flap about me on paper wings, insects in fine print, dizzying. Restless, I pace the room and my toes stick to the wood boards. The burnt light leaking through the blinds makes me melt like chocolate.

    • Skylark said:

Hello, thank you. I made the template. I’m glad that you like it because I was thinking of changing it..

aggr I want to post you a lot of things but i don’t know because my native language isn’t spanish!

        • Azu Rose said:

          is spanish*

        • Skylark said:

Dear Azu, you can comment in Spanish if you want. I can only read a little but I can use an online translator.

I can’t write back in Spanish though.. I only know English and a little bit of French and Japanese.

I love your dress, and I wish my summer was like that, right now where I live although it claims to be summer the wind is that of the worst winter

    • Skylark said:

We get strong winds here are the end of summer, but I don’t mind because they come from the east and smell of forests and hills.

I wouldn’t envy my summer, it is 42 Celsius today.

The woody tiles looks comforting and blended in nature. Does it make the summer better, at least in home? I am sure that you must be a good observer of the surroundings… I do remember your photo with the little ladybug. That was so wonderful..

    • Skylark said:

Yes, I love love floorboards and hate hate carpet. My room has carpet unfortunately but the rest of the house is gorgeous hundred-year-old jarrah.

Ladybirds are miracles. I was just lucky.

  4. LadyG said:

Somehow you captured discomfort and made it fanciful. Well done.

    • Skylark said:

Thank you, I wish the summer was quite as romantic as it sounds in books, but they always forget to mention the bugs and the sweat.

  5. Emily said:

Oh wow that is too hot for me, but I am terribly sick of the 7 Celcius summer right now and its really not very nice

    • Skylark said:

Yes, that is too cold for summer nights. It’s rarely even that cold in winter here. I hope you have a big feather quilt to keep you warm.

  6. Eyebright said:

    Hello!

I, too, am in love with your dress. The colors and the style are just so lovely and vintage-y!

Your blog template is also so darling, unique, and enchanting.

    • Skylark said:

Thank you, it is my new favourite dress!

Oh, I am so glad people like it… I was going to change it.

      • asfa said:

I wish it was like that where I am, if only for a day. It is winter here, and very cold. The static electricity makes my hair stick up every time I brush it, and I have to pile the blankets on my bed high up like in the “Princess and the Pea” as I get cold very easily. I love the summer. I love the feeling of the sun’s warmth opposed to the artificial heat the house makes, and let’s not forget being able to go barefooted. However, as soon as summer does roll around in June, I suppose I shall be longing again for Christmas and fuzzy pajamas and cozy fires.
And, of course, I also love your dress. Wherever did you get it?

    • Skylark said:

I wish I could trade you for a day of winter, preferrably with a light snow like icing sugar. It would look so pretty on the lawn.

The brand of my dress is ‘Revival.’

  8. Ryan said:

I just spent the morning outside – not a good idea. What are the different stones resting upon your arm?

    • Skylark said:

I’m not sure, they’re just polished pebbles.

It is even hot in the mornings now. Definitely indoor weather.

  9. I love your pretty pictures. Here in my country, it´s summer too… And it´s so hot I almost can´t stand it. But I really like summer clothes, they are so girly.

  10. Vera said:

Oh, I can feel the stifling heat out of your words. Even here, where everything is gray and I sit huddled in my chair with a blanket. xx Vera

P.S.: Your dress is lovely ♥

    • Skylark said:

Thank you dear, I’m so glad to see you back! I’ve missed your pretty posts. ♥ Skye

I was born at the tail-end of spring and I can’t take the cold one tiny bit. I hate how it dries my skin out no matter what I do and how I have to wrap myself up like Thousandfurs any time I go outside. Our winters are comparatively mild though, and our summers very muggy and hot, so I do commiserate with you about the bugs and the sweat.

    • Skylark said:

I was born in the middle of spring and I know just what you mean! Our seasons sound like yours, although the summers are dry and hot.

  12. May I ask where your home is?

The weather is pretty snowy and cold here on the northern half of the globe …

    • Skylark said:

Hello, I live in Western Australia, so I’m experiencing the opposite sort of weather right now.

  13. Joanna said:

I wish I could feel the heat, just for bit! It is so cold in England right now. But I do miss the snow, it was really nice to watch, and we had more birds in our garden than usual.

    • Skylark said:

You have so much snow there right now! I am coming to England in July and it will be all melted by then so I’ll just have to look at pictures.

  14. Stina said:

Oooh, this is such a gorgeous post!
It made my heart melt a little bit. I love the light in your photographs.
We have winter here. I adore winter, but today it is cold & grey & dark. I miss the sun.

    • Skylark said:

Thank you so. The weather right now makes everything melt. I miss the rain, I haven’t seen it in months.

  15. Taylor said:

As hot as summer may be, atleast it isn’t below freezing!

  16. Princess June said:

I love your dress! It’s so beautiful! The book looks very interesting!

My Mom bought some summer dresses from Panama that are imported from Europe but I don’t fit into them anymore… *lol*

But I will get back to my former size of 5! I will! *lol*

    • Skylark said:

Thank you, your dresses sound lovely too. I like anything with flowers on it.

  17. oh it sounds so warm, a bit like it is here. although i do wish it were cooler. magical post as always. xx

  18. PamJ said:

Your imagery is fantastic. I would rather have a summer day now, as it’s 1 degree celcius where I am, the northern USA. We have snow on the ground, but it is old, dull, and dirty around the edges. But my neighbor, an artist, built 3 adorable snow people. These are NOT snowmen made of 3 balls, but small precious snow sculptures.

    • Skylark said:

Those snow people sound amazing! They must look like ghosts in the evening.

42 C is a bit unbearable though, you can feel your skin burning.

  19. Natane said:

I love the dress, it is so cute.
    Enchanted photos.
    Kisses

  20. Silver said:

Your posts are always so magical, and the soft, otherworldly atmosphere of the pictures touches something deep in my heart.

    I love your dress, too.

May I ask what kind of camera you use?

    • Skylark said:

Hello, I use a Nikon D90 with a zoom lens. I am getting an Instax Mini this week though and I can’t wait!

  21. lou said:

is it a prose? i love it so much! :)

  22. lulu said:

I bet that floor is cool… I used to do that with tiled floors. x

    • Skylark said:

Tiles are wonderfully cool, floor boards tend to heat up and bend and creak in the summer.

  23. Love your Blog.
Although it`s a wee bit funny to read about sun and flowers while it`s all fog and cold outside. :)

    Keep going

  24. FlowerGirl said:

Your summer sounds beautifully honest and it’ll be even kinder with your lovely clothes and fanciful stories. If I thought about it long and hard I just may offer a trade of my frosty winter, but just for a day as I am enjoying every minute of my wonderland.
I love the cold of winter and the wailing breeze that bellows about my knit beret. I love the splendid rebellion of running around in the frozen grass barefoot letting my skirt float on the wind and everyone watching marvel that I don’t catch a cold. When the weather is horrid, I love sitting upon my canopy swing peering through the clear tarp wrapped in blankets with silk pillows, a good book, a hot cup of cider and a dainty slice of lemon cake. Peace to all and may a cool breeze blow your way.

    • Skylark said:

If you change your mind I would be happy to swap. Your canopy swing sounds perfect.

      • FlowerGirl said:

You’re quite correct, the canopy swing is splendid and I have managed to install a little plush (but weatherproof) bookshelf with a (battery operated) lantern, my favorite books and a cup holder, in the fall so I could listen to the soft patter of raindrops in the cozy little enclave. It’s lovely for winter and even more so with the battery operated heating blankie! However as balance is always lovely I’d be more than happy to trade for a bit :)! Best to you.

        • Evelyn said:

FlowerGirl, your comments were rather poetic and dreamy. I was wondering, do you write a blog? Because your style of writing is enchanting.

          Best wishes. :)

  25. Wow, that warmed me right up!
I was cold because we have lots of snow right now. About a week ago we had 2 feet of it!

I miss sundress weather, and pink lemonade. <3

    • Skylark said:

Ooh, I haven’t had pink lemonade in forever, I shall try to find some. Thank you!

  26. Shivi said:

Did you by any chance happen to get that dress from the MissShop section in Myer? I’m quite sure I recognise it!

    • Skylark said:

Hello, I didn’t buy it from Myer, but perhaps they stock it there too? The brand is Revival.

  27. Princessemeline said:

That’s such a darling dress you are wearing. I love the print on it.

Is “The Yellow Dragon” good? I’m always looking for a good book on dragons. They can sometimes be so hard to find.

    • Skylark said:

Yes, it is a good book, but it is not about a dragon. It is a collection of Gypsy folk tales.
