Today was washing on the line and the chance of rain and houndstooth skirts and crunchy apples and curling up on the grass beneath the Jacaranda tree in a small pile of blankets to read.
I have a secret love for Spiderwick. It reminds me to look for Stray Sods on our lawn and inspect patches of red clover and leave a little warm milk with honey and bread in the old shell at the bottom of the garden.

Thank you, I did. I love your blog too. xo
Gardens… Lovely places.
Beautiful photos ;D
I really love our garden. Thank you.
Great pictures. I have the Spiderwick creatures book too!
Isn’t it wonderful? The illustrations just jump off the pages.
I love Spiderwick! diTerlizzi’s artwork is awe inspiring. Have you read Holly Black’s Tithe and its sequels? Much, much darker but wonderfully written.
I haven’t, but I shall definitely look for them, thank you.
i love spiderwick!its so wonderfully magical isnt it?
It is, and so very well researched too.
Sounds like you had a magical day. :D I haven’t had the chance to read Spiderwick yet but I really want to. :D
The books are lovely but I like the field guide best.
oh!! I love the photos!! It reminds me of the Secret Garden movie with all the plants… growing wild… I haven’t read spiderwick…
And what’s the milk and honey and bread for?:D
Milk and Honey and Bread are gifts for the Faeries. Especially our Brwonie which has been messing with the plumbing lately.
It’s so nice to see others leaving little treats for the Fair Folk. I personally like to sing for them from time to time. I’ve been told they love music…
In regards to another entry…what do you think fairies look like? I was curious to see your answer. :)
I think they can look like whatever they wish too, but I always imagine them as less human than most people draw them.
Whenever I see evidence of the Fair Folk I do the same! Do you find four leaf clovers? And I would hope to avoid stray sods..
Not all faeries are tiny winged friendly beings. I was wondering what else you know about them ^-^
Shards
No I didn’t, but I shall keep looking. I know lots about Faeries from books, but I think experiential knowledge is more valuable.
I have looked at this book several times in shops, and have not yet purchased a copy … it has now been bumped up to the top of the list!
Your picture of the shell with its warm honeyed milk is very beautiful, and I am certain that you woke up to find it empty the next morning!
Have you ever read Shirley Barber’s Fairy Collection? Her illustrations are absolutely beautiful (even though they portray fairies in a more-human fashion), and the stories are perfect for bedtime, with touches of whimsy. (The book comes with a CD of her reading the stories… it is darling! Her voice makes me think of what Wendy must have sounded like, telling stories to her great-grandchildren… :) )
Shirley Barber’s Fairy Collection
I love the Spiderwick drawings and series of books. They are wonderful! I also love Brian Froud’s faeries, fabulous.
oh such gorgeous photos….your blog is so lovely, it feels like a fairy tale itself. xo joanna
I love spiderwick! I have that book as well! Do you have the caring for sprites book?
Let us know if you find any faeries though. I’m still looking!

I can’t believe it. I thought I was the only one in the world like me. All I watch are princess movies and I drink tea and wish that someday someone will tell me there was a mistake when I was born and that I am actually a princess. I’ve read Hans Cristian Andersen time and time again. I daydream constantly. I live so bored all the time and I have no one to talk to who understands. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that you are not alone.I share your dream. Thank you for making such a wonderful website. Have a lovely day.
Sincerely,
Heather
