Bad Habits

I like reading in the bath, its not a good idea really but its oh-so comfortable and otherwise I fall asleep and I’m slightly afraid of drowning. Picture books are best, you can only get through a few chapters of a novel before the water starts to get cold and your fingers and toes shrivel like prunes. My skin is so pink afterwards, with a rosey glow like a baby.

I’d love to be able to indulge in this habit, but how does one read a book in the bath without wetting it?

    • Skylark said:

Very carefully, and by making sure your hands are always dry.

  2. Unfortunately we don’t have that good of a bath, and the water always seems to be cold.

And I’d be too paranoid of getting my book wet! I’m overly protective.

Is it a roman bath? We used to have one of those and it was terrible.

A lot of my books have protective plastic sleeves, so that helps.

      • I’m not entirely sure, and neither are my parents. But it’s not that good of a bath.

Hmmm, I think perhaps I should get myself some for my books.

I have some mixed feelings about taking a bath – on one hand I feel really relaxed in my body and mind when I´m taking a bath. But on teh otehr hand I can get a little “scared” when I´m lying there – I have no idea why?? :S

    • Skylark said:

Maybe its being forced to just lay there.. I don’t like doing nothing, thats why I read.

I love to read in the bath as well, especially if there’s a certain time I have to leave conditioner on for. :3

    I love the photo, too!

Do you wash your hair in the bath? I always found this difficult.

If I’m staying in a house that doesn’t have a shower, yup! When I’m at home though I usually use the shower. ^^

    I wish I had a bathtub.

I love the photo! It looks like it came from a magazine! :D

If I ever read in the bathtub, I read sideways, so the book can be propped on a towel on the side of the tub. ;)

    beautiful picture!

I think its the best place to read, second to a window seat, which I don’t have.

    I love reading.

I love reading in the bath. I top the hot water up after 20 – 30 minutes, so I can stay in longer and read more.

    • Skylark said:

I’m tempted to do that sometimes, but usually I have the water so hot to start with it lasts quite a while.

Oh, how often I’ve ruined a book by letting an edge fall into the water…but it’s so relaxing!

    • Skylark said:

Oh my! I try and be very careful, I think I’ve splashed a page before but not dropped it.

Love your photography skills! I miss bathing, bathtubs hardly exist here :P

Thats very sad, baths are my favourite luxury, that and pastries,

    I tried reading in the bath once too, I got all comfortable, got my book and towel ready, then put on my glasses – and saw no more ;_;
I totally forgot that steam + glass = no good XD

Also, you can read by candlelight? That’s amazing, my eyes are way too bad for that.

    • Kate said:

I find that as long as I keep my glasses on the whole time, they don’t steam up. If I take them off and then put them on again, they immediately steam up >.< I guess they cool down when I’m not wearing them!

    • Skylark said:

I can read by candlelight, I have very good eye sight but I try not to do this too often because I don’t want to ruin it.

Reading in the bath is the answer to all life’s problems. One day I’ll have to invest in buying or making a tub desk because I spend so much time in the bath! http://www.instructables.com/id/tub-desk/

I love to read in the bath, we are on heavy water restrictions here in Australia though so I don’t get to do it very often :( 4 minute showers suck.

    • Skylark said:

I only have baths in the winter when its rainy, we have water restrictions too but they usually only apply to watering the garden.

      • Violet said:

So did ours up until a few years ago, they kept saying that we only had 6 months of water left etc so they handed out 4minute timers to everyone to put in the shower *_*

so beautiful, but i am afraid of the same thing too! <3

That both looks and sounds very cozy:) Too bad I don’t have a bath-tub though. Great picture!

    • Skylark said:

Its the best thing in winter, but curling up on an armchair with a heavy quilt is close.

I fell asleep in the bathtub back in high school once or twice. You do wake up if you sink too low, your body being rigged to keep you alive and all, but it’s a very panicky wake-up call!

Question: What’s lined up on the side of your bathtub? They look like dried buds of some sort.

    • Skylark said:

Thats good to know! I don’t think mine is really deep enough to drown in anyway, but it would be the worst way to die.

They’re dried pink rosebuds, seven in total.

Reading in the bath is wonderful, as is listening to gorgeous and beautiful music. Tsk tsk, I can’t imagine how this is a bad habit!

You’re very lucky having a little ledge right beside your bath for candles and a book:) I love baths

I love to read in the bathtub, I always do it, armed with a towel. And then, when I feel like relaxing my arms a little, I put away the book, rest my head and sleep a little. You won’t drown, I promise :) It’s really peaceful.

I wish my family’s home had a better bath. We have this terrible plastic thing that can’t hold water in the bottom and it’s always too too hot, or too too cold.

I think a brownie attacked our plumbing.
